Why Paddle the Tara River?
The Tara Canyon is the deepest river gorge in Europe, and a UNESCO-protected natural wonder. With 60km of untamed beauty, it offers the perfect setting for a whitewater SUP expedition that’s both challenging and deeply rewarding. From wild swims and cliffside paddling to riverside campfires and starlit skies, this trip is a full-body, full-heart experience.
What to Expect: Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival & Disconnect
Fly into Sarajevo and transfer to SUP ESCAPE’s secluded Tara River base camp. Meet your expert guides Kev & Tom, settle in, and unplug – there’s no cell signal here, just fresh air and firelight.
Day 2 – Through Durmitor National Park
Enjoy a scenic drive to Slijivansko, the launch point for your paddle. Spend 2–3 hours on the river before camping at a remote riverside farm.
Day 3 – Easygoing Paddle & Wild Camp
A relaxed 20km stretch with plenty of time to swim, explore, and enjoy the untouched scenery. Camp wild on the riverbank — no roads, no crowds, just nature.
Day 4 – Deep into the Canyon
Venture through the most remote section of the Tara River. Towering cliffs and epic solitude await. After a 20km paddle, return to base camp for a well-earned rest.
Day 5 – Rapids & Adrenaline
Wrap things up with a 13km section packed with exciting Class II/III rapids. You can surf, scout, or ride in the support raft. Celebrate with a final campfire feast.
Day 6 – Farewell & Transfer
After breakfast, transfer back to Sarajevo Airport with sore muscles, fresh memories, and new paddling friends.
